Magnetic polymer microspheres have been widely applied to many aspects, especially in biotechnology and biomedicalengineering. However, in the process of the preparation of the polymer microspheres, a series of the crucial problems must be put into great attention. First, the crystal of ferroferric oxide must be smaller than 30nm to obtain the superparamagnetism of the particles. Second, the complete and uniform encapsulation of the magnetite particles by polymers should be carried out to guarantee no iron leaking and no toxicity. Third, the magnetite content of the polymer beads should be large enough to satisfy the requirement for the quick magnetic separation. In this paper, miniemulsion co-polymerization of divinyl benzene and vinyl acetate was used to synthesize the magnetic polymer spheres with high magnetic content. The abundant hydroxyl groups were also modified on their surface with different methods.
