A multi-objective optimization model in which three objectives, i.e., primary energy consumption, CO_2 emission and cost are considered, has been developed for planning future energy systems in an urban area. The model is a mixed integer LP and it is useful to investigate a desirable energy system in small areas (2km by 2km) by generating a set of non-inferior solutions. The model has been applied to an actual city in Japan, and effectiveness of those relatively new, energy efficient or environmentally viable energy systems such as co-generation, fuel cell, and solar systems, will be described in terms of these tradeoffs.
