Values of the nine elastic constants have been determined on three thick samples of orthotropic sheets of copper alloys, using an over-determined set of non-contact ultrasonic velocity measurements made from one side of the sheet. Values of C_(11) and C_(22) were determined with a standard error of 1% to 2% while C_(33), C_(44), C_(55) and C_(66) could be determined with a standard error no larger than 0.6%. The off diagonal moduli C_(12), C_(13) and C_(23) were determined with a standard error of 3% to 4%. Measurements made by conventional destructive and contacting methods on the same materials agree with the values obtained here by nondestructive and noncontact methods to within these uncertainties except for the modulus C_(66) of the C210 brass sample. The origin of this single discrepancy is unknown at this time.
