Nature and origin of the magnetic mineralogy of some south American sedimentary rocks: first results

Magnetic properties of South American sediments formed during the Early Paleozoic Era were investigated. Magnetic tests detected the presence of hematite, goethite and possibly magnetite as the main carriers of the magnetization. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the origin of those minerals as the paleomagnetic results indicate that they carry a non-primary magnetization.
