Dynamic operations in the planning and scheduling of multi-product batch plants

Dynamic processing freedom of batch units is considered in diesign and scheduling to improve profitability under strict constraints. The long term planning and scheduling formulation of Birewar and Grossmann (1989b) is extended to include dynamic processing. Orthogonal collocation is used to solve the optimal control profile for individual tasks. An example is solved with the extended formulation and significant advantages are presented.
