China's Aqua-products Processing Industry in Progress

Since 16 years of China's reform and opening policy to the outside world, the production of fisheries in China has been increased sustainedly and rapidly. In 1994 the total outpout of fisheries was 2146.4x10~4t (Table 1), and has been ranked first for the last five years. At the same time, aqua-products processing industry in China has also been developed greatly. It has become a large industrial department that includes aqua-product refrigeration (freezing, cold storage and icemaking), curing, salting, drying, canning (soft packages included), surimi-making (minced fish products), flavored and cooked products, aquamedicine and health products, fish meal and feed, seaweed chemicals, fish skin leathering, aquatic arts and crafts and so on, forming an essential part of fish-eries. It plays an importnat role to increase aquaproduct effective supplies for market, to enrich perople's "Vegetable-Basket Project" and to raise economic benefits.
