14.8 million people live in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, and their number will increase up to 21.0 million by the year of 2010. The main activity in the region is agriculture in which the integrated farming systems play an important role. A variety of integrated framing practices is presently being used by farmer, and aquaculture is one of the major components in the integrated systems. These practices are generally based on principles of nutrient recycling and efficient use of farm land and water resources, They constitute an appropriate, low input production system for rural farming households, and are increasingly taken by farmers with the main aim to diversify their production, labor, food and income pattem.
