DIME - Distributed Interactive Medical Environment

The primary project objective is the development of a prototype system which aims to provide specialist expertise at the Community Health Centre, and local hospital level. The system proposes to use state-of-the-art multimedia technology to provide distributed knowledge-based solutions and will establish the provision of remote diagnostic facilities and distance tutoring over an ISDN communications link. The objective of the research project is not only to construct a prototype system for use by the local Health Boards, but to develop a generic knowledge-based training tool which uses the latest advances in interactive multimedia. Consideration will also be given to the aspect of user modelling. A system will be designed which will adapt to the learning requirements of the user and cater for different levels of competence providing flexible access to knowledge without the need for redesign.
