Predictors of the Test Anxiety in Systems Engineering and Chemical Engineering Students

Anxiety often affects academic performance in engineering degree students. Therefore, this study aimed to: identify the predictor factors of test anxiety and academic performance in two samples of engineering students. The sample was 98 students (82 men (83.7%) and 14 women (14.3%)). Two students did not report their gender. The students were between 17 to 25 years of age (Mage = 20.12, SD = 2.06), 46 studied Systems Engineering (46.9%) and 52 studied Chemical Engineering (53.1%). The results showed that Chemical Engineering students had higher levels of academic performance and lower levels of cognitive disability, worry and test anxiety; instead, these results were negative in Systems Engineering. Finally, multiple linear regression analysis showed that the career type predicts the test anxiety level.
