Successful External Interference Requires Domestic Confederates

摘要

1.Introduction Successful external interference requires domestic confederates. The title of this chapter is its argument. Our review of comparative politics literature on the efforts of outside powers to change the domestic politics of other countries recurrently demonstrates the point that a necessary condition for successful interference is a society (e.g. a change of government) in which some important political actors are more committed to victory than to the integrity of their political system. We show the logic, in contemporary context, in case studies and then draw inferences for the resilience of domestic political systems.
