With the advent of the internet of things and industry 4.0 technologies, the warehouse automation sector is expected to grow concurrently. An inexpensive monocular camera system can provide an elegant software scalable sensing solution that can be implemented inside a controlled environment like the ones found in warehouses. This paper presents two algorithms to segment images based on color. It is suitable for systems incorporating a monocular vision and can be well implemented in a warehouse setting. The monocular vision approach benefits over its stereo vision counterparts in software complexity and hardware costs, both critical factors for designing industrial solutions.
