This research is aimed at finding a sustainable alternate source of energy that can be used as a substitute for conventional fuel sources in internal combustion engines. Bio-oil from Polyalthia longifolia seeds was extracted using pyrolysis. This bio-oil, after filtration and purification was mixed in various proportion with diesel. Performance test was conducted on a diesel engine by varying the compression ratio. The results obtained from the performance and combustion analysis of the engine when run on three different blends of diesel + bio-oil, under two different compression ratios reveals that the A15 blend (15 % bio-oil + 85 % diesel) by weight has the highest heat release and combustion characteristics identical to diesel at compression ratios of 16 and 17.5. The A10 blend (10 % bio-oil + 90 % diesel) has better brake thermal efficiency when it comes to the compression ratio of 17.5. The overall comparative study reveals that the A15 blend is the most effective blend among the three blends that were subjected to analysis.
