Techno-Economic Assessment of Briquetting: A Case Study of The Sokoban Wood Village

This research was carried out to assess the appropriate technology for producing sawdust briquette. Recommended from this paper was to directly briquette the sawdust instead of converting it to char before briquetting. Two commonly preferred machines were compared, and the best equipment suitable for making sawdust briquette and also for use in Ghana was selected. The screw press was recommended. A financial review was carried out on the viability of setting up a briquetting plant in Ghana. The NPV was determined to be GHȼ4,724,130, which is a positive indicator. The IRR was 38%, with a profitability index of 3.025. The profitability index is more significant than one and may not signify a highly profitable venture. The project, however, overall, was determined to be viable, with a payback period of 5 years. However, for a start-up company, it is recommended that the investment is started on a small scale and later developed into a more substantial set up due to the high cost of equipment.
