The compounds of silica-filled styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) were vulcanized at 150 °C through the use of a semi efficient vulcanization system. Through the vulcanization properties, the influences of palmitamide on physico-mechanical properties of compounds of silica-filled SBR were investigated. The palmitamide was produced from palmitic acid and urea. As an additive rubber chemical, the palmitamide was incorporated into the silica-filled SBR at 0.0, 1.0, 3.0, 5.0 and 7.0 parts per hundred rubber (phr.). It was revealed that palmitamide acted as a curative rubber material which shortened theoptimum cure times but increased the torque difference of the silica-filled SBR compounds. The bigger the palmitamide concentration, the lower the optimum cure times were. It was also revealed that palmitamide affected the physico-mechanical properties. Thehardness, tensile moduli and tensile strength were raised but the elongation at break was decreased up to a 3.0 phr. of palmitamide concentration. It was confirmed by the swelling test, the improvement in physico-mechanical properties was because of the improvements in crosslink density as well as the cure state of the silica-filled SBR compounds.
