In this study, a distributed biosphere hydrological model (WEB-DHM) has been coupled with a 1D hydraulic model (HEC-RAS) to simulate flood inundations in river basins. The newly coupled system is then applied to the upper Citarum River Basin, Indonesia for checking its performance in reproducing flood events (particularly the inundated area). Results show that the new system is capable of calculating flood parameters (e.g., peak flow rate, and flood inundation area) very well in continuous simulations. The peak flow rates are well reproduced with a relative error of -1.85% for the calibration period (1986) and 3.5% for the validation period (2005); while the simulated inundation areas agree fairly well with the observed ones, having coincided area around 70% in both calibration and validation periods.
