KATZ AWARD RESPONSE DR. KRAEMER LUKS

A special heartfelt thank-you to GPA Midstream for awarding me the Donald Katz Award. I am sincerely humbled - the list of previous recipients is definitely an esteemed group. Lest you kindly think otherwise, I go back a long way. In the fall of 1967, when I was a young Assistant Professor at the University Of Notre Dame, my chairman J. T. Banchero asked me to join him and (the not yet retired) Don Katz for dinner. Katz was visiting Notre Dame to give a series of three talks about his many areas of endeavor. It bears mentioning that both Banchero and Katz had once worked together at the University Of Michigan in their Department of Chemical Engineering. It was a memorable evening. Don was a cordial guest as well as a great conversationalist. I have always fondly remembered meeting him.
