Transition metal-catalyzed enantioselective propargylic reduction of tertiary alcohols withhydride sources provides useful synthetic methods to prepare deoxygenated compounds.Transition metal-catalyzed enantioselective allylic substitution reactions of allylic alcoholderivatives with nucleophiles have been extensively studied to date.The first successfulexample of the enantioselective allylic reduction of allylic alcohol derivatives with formic acidwas reported by Hayashi and co-workers in 1994.1 Recently,Carreira and co-workers reportedthe enantioselective reduction of allenyl analogues with dihydropyridines.2 In sharp contrast,the enantioselective reduction of propargylic alcohols has not yet been achieved until now.
