Zinc rich primers typically provide sound corrosion protection properties.High zinc pigment concentrations,however,are ecologically relevant and due to a lack of binder such high pigment concentrations may cause cohesive and adhesive weak points.The latter may become fatal,where insufficient surface preparation occurs.Since in practice imperfect or incomplete surface preparation or contamination after surface preparation happens much more frequently than presumed,measures which contribute to improved adhesion could help to counterbalance technical failures significantly.Such measures could support paint manufacturers,reduce customer complaints and partly relieve job coaters.Therefore the following studies intend to explore,how far a combination of pigment variations with standard zinc pigment could contribute to improved anticorrosive properties,to decreased overall zinc content and therefore to enhanced adhesion on imperfectly prepared surfaces.Variations performed here comprise: 1.shape,dimension and concentration of zinc pigment;2.surface treatment of zinc pigment;3.use of zinc alloy pigments;4.metal precipitation on zinc pigment surface;5.addition of inert conductivity additives.
