Electrocatalytic water splitting is an alternative method to convert unstable sustainable energy to stable hydrogen energy for energy storage and large scale application of fuel cells. To prepare transition metal based materials as the electrocatalysts to replace noble-metal based ones for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is desired in recent years. Herein, the nickel-cobalt phosphides (NiCoP) are synthesized by using additional organic ligand in organic solvent for the formation of unique nanostructure with more active sites. It is expected that the obtained unique nanostructure can result in synergistic effect to decrease the overpotential and exhibit long-term stability in alkaline media solution.
