Aldehydes are widely utilized as reactive electrophiles to form carbon-carbon bonds. However, it is still challenging to achieve a perfectly chemoselective reaction between the coexisting aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes. We have developed an aromatic aldehyde-selective nucleophilic functionalization via the pyridinium-type salt intermediates1) derived from aromatic aldehydes with silyl triflate and pyridine derivatives.
