Polythiophenes have attracted much attention in materials science as a variety of electronic materials. We have recently shown that introduction of an oligosiloxane moiety into the side chain allows remarkably hydrocarbon-soluble regioregular polythiophene. We herein report synthesis of thiophene monomer 1 bearing a cyclic siloxane moiety at the side chain and the deprotonative polymerization of 1 to afford regioregular polythiophene 2. Formation of the polysiloxane gel by the acid-mediated ring opening of the cyclic siloxane moiety and studies on the electronic properties of the obtained polythiophene gel are also described.
