o-Carborane (Fig. 1) is an icosahedral cluster composed of ten boron and two carbon atoms. Recently, many researches about unique optical properties of o-carborane having aromatic rings have been reported. For example, the bulky structure of o-carborane can contribute to disturbing intermolecular interaction between aromatic moieties, resulting in highly-efficient solid state emission and/or aggregation-induced emission (AIE) property 1) .
