Synthesis and Properties of Anionic Ruthenium Complexes with a Selenonitrosyl Ligand

Although nitrosyl (NO) complexes of transition-metals are well studied, their sulfur and selenium analogues, i.e., thionitrosyl (NS) and selenonitrosyl (NSe) complexes are less explored. The lack of suitable synthetic routes prevented the studies related to NS and NSe complexes. Moreover, anionic complexes with a NS or NSe ligand have been much less studied. A remarkable progress on the synthesis of NS and NSe complexes of late transition metals was reported in 1998, where the complexes were prepared by the reaction of an electrophilic nitrido complex with elemental sulfur or selenium. In this study, we have developed a synthetic route to NS and NSe anionic complexes starting from an anionic electrophilic nitrido complexes bearing a tetraanionic 1,2-bis(hydroxybenzamido)benzene (hybab) ligand.
