Chiral hypervalent iodine catalysis is gaining attention because of their ability to facilitate asymmetric oxidation reactions in environmentally benign ways.1 However, there are only a few chiral organoiodine catalysts which are capable of achieving high enantioselectivity. Even with these catalysts, intermolecular reactions are considered to be very difficult to realize high selectivity. In this context, we became interested in applying chiral indanol scaffold to the new design of a chiral organoiodine catalyst, based on our successful designs of chiral selenium catalyst and thiyl radical catalyst.2,3
