Proteins possess unique functions and play important roles in biological systems, depending on their differences in amino acid sequences, three-dimensional structures and specific ligand binding domains (LBDs). Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-A, an angiogenesis factor, has mainly three isoforms such as VEGF165, 189 and 121; VEGF 165 and 189 possess common ligand binding domains for heparins (HBD) with a highly homologous amino acid sequences (87 %), whereas no HBD is on VEGF121.
