Sea surface temperature (SST) is used for weather and ocean forecasting, to observe and monitor ocean current systems and ocean fronts. Near real time observation of SST will improve knowledge of some oceanographic phenomena which is useful for fishing ground forecast. Seto Inland Sea is a semi-enclosed area that has high potential resources of marine and fisheries in Japan, it is significant to observe SST using higher temporal and spatial resolution satellite data. The objective of this study is to compare the SST retrieved by Himawari-8 AHI sensor and SST retrieved by Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and further obtain the variation of SST in decades in Seto Inland Sea In this study, the MODIS datasets obtained by Aqua and Terra spacecraft which provide a level 3 monthly SST data in 4 km pixel size was used for comparing with the monthly average of Himawari SST data in 2 km pixel size which calculated using near real time standard Himawari SST product. The results showed SST using Himawari data had an improved performance in both temporal aspect and spatial aspect for Seto Inland Sea, which provide a more efficient observation for oceanographic phenomena so as to benefit for fishery industry. The variation of SST in decades in Seto Inland Sea also showed a great significance.
