Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is still causing significant economic losses to the swine industry in North America. Controlling this disease is difficult, and there is a great variability on the efficacy of PRRS control strategies to reduce negative impact in production;1 therefore, strategies for managing whole herd immunity along with bio-management practices to reduce resident Wild-Type PRRS virus (WT-PRRSv) circulation, and biosecurity protocols to prevent new WT-PRRSv introduction are critical for achieving long term success in controlling PRRS.
