Managing enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli post-weaning diarrhea with Avilamycin

Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) is an important cause of illness and death in recently weaned pigs. Avilamycin (Kavault*) is a recently approved in-feed antimicrobial labeled for the reduction of incidence and overall severity of diarrhea in the presence of pathogenic E. coli in groups of weaned pigs. The presentation will review factors involved in successfully using this novel compound in helping to manage the occurrence of ETEC in weaned pigs.
