On the basis of the existing results, four kinds of the representative Karman constant formulas such as Zhang Hong-wu's etc, were analyzed and summarized. In order to study the velocity distribution law of sediment laden flow, especially hyperconcentrated flow, velocity test with 70 runs had been carried out in the flume, in which the HCV-1 type velocimeter manufactured by ourselves was used for hyperconcentrated flow. According to the test results, a new relationship between Karman constant κ and the viscosity index μ_r was established, which is good representation of general sediment laden flow, particularly hyperconcentrated flow. The results are significant for enriching river mechanics, recognizing basic movement laws of sediment laden flow and harnessing fluvial river with high concentration.
