Association of growth performance with clinical signs following co-infection with porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) and porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) in nursery pigs

Average daily gain (ADG) is used in swine production as an objective measurement of overall health and performance. On a global scale, co-infections involving potcine teptoductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) and porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) ate common and contribute to sevetal disease syndromes that reduce ADG. Clinical signs associated with PRRSV and PCV2 co-infections ate divetse and include pallor or jaundice, lethargy or depression, muscle wasting, decreased body condition, dyspnea, open-mouth breathing, rhinorrhea, diarrhea, aural cyanosis, lameness, joint effusion and coughing. The putpose of this study was to standatdize collection of clinical data in a co-infected nursery pig model, document the time coutse of clinical disease post-infection, and investigate the impact of clinical disease on animal welfare and ADG.
