A simple, rapid and sensitive ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) with uniform design method was developed and validated for the simultaneous determination of phenolic acids, coumarins, and flavonoids in Artemisia annua L. The compounds were well separated on a Waters UPLC BEH C_(18) (2.1x100 mm, 1.7 mum) column in less than 15 min when 0.1%(v/v) formic acid and acetonitrile was used as mobile phase. The flow rate was 0.4 mL/min and wavelength was at 325 nm. The method was validated in term of precision, recovery, repeatability, stability and limit of detection. The correlation coefficients of all the calibration curves were higher than 0.9990. The recoveries ranged from 96.8% to 102%. Relative standard deviations (RSDs) of intraday and inter day precisions were lower than 3.07%. The new established method was successfully applied to quantify phenolic acids, coumarins, and flavonoids, which provided a very flexible and reliable method for quality assessment of A. annua.
