Synthesis of new poly olefins by metal catalyzed polymerization attracts considerable attention, and an importance of the catalyst development has thus been highly considered. We previously reported that Cp*TiCl2(OAr) . (1, Ar = 2,6-Tr2C6H3) - MAO catalyst exhibited remarkable catalytic activities for polymerization of 1-hexene, 1-octene affording high molecular weight polymers, and 1-hexene polymerization by Cp*TiMe2(OAr) - borate catalyst proceeded in (quasi) living manner affording ultrahigh molecular weight polymers with rather narrow molecular weight distributions.2 Since examples for synthesis of ultrahigh molecular weight polymers by polymerization of long chain a-olefins have been limited, also since the resultant polymers should display unique characteristics as cyclindrical (brush) polymers owing to the long side chains, we thus have an interest to explore the possibility by polymerization of long chain a-olefins (Scheme 1).
