In this work, Zn~-, Y~-, Cd~-, and Nd-containing early transition-metal oxide crystals were successfully grown by a flux method, and their phase transformation under a high-temperature reductive atmosphere was investigated. The flux-grown and phase-transformed crystal products were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDS, XPS, UV-Vis, etc. The XRD and SEM results revealed that the oxide crystal products grown by a flux method are single phase and have different idiomorphic crystal shapes. Under a reductive atmosphere at 950°C for 10 h, the ZnTa2O6 and Cd2Ta2O7 dense crystals were phase transformed into single-phase tantalum nitride porous structures, while other early transition-metal oxide crystals were converted into mixed phases due to their reactivity under a high-temperature reductive atmosphere.
