S100 proteins are intracellular calcium ion sensors that participate in a wide range of biological processes including proliferation, migration, invasion, inflammation and differentiation [1]. Overexpression of S1 00 genes, particularly S1 00P and S100A7 has been observed in several types of cancers, including breast carcinomas. However, their roles during breast cancer initiation and progression have not been well defined [1,2]. Recently, we showed that exposure of breast cancer cell lines to fluid flow potentiates disease progression by promoting EMT and cell adhesion (In preparation). The objective of the current study was to analyze changes in gene expression profiles of S100 genes upon exposing human mammary epithelial cells (HMECs) to fluid flow. Relevant findings were correlated in gene expression profiles from three independent clinical datasets.
