Tight junctions determine the polarity and paracellular permeability of epithelial cells, and may play a role in modulating cell proliferation. Decrease in the expression levels of tight junction proteins, such as claudin gene family members, can lead to the disruption of tight junctions. Although androgen deprivation is the effective initial therapy, castration resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) emerges in about two years after treatment. Despite extensive investigation, the mechanism of CRPC is still not clear.
