The Role of the Media in Dealing with Crime and Domestic Violence

Domestic crime is a complex problem, it is a social problem. Domestic and family violence takes many forms. It involves violent, abusive or intimidating behavior carried out by a partner, or family member to control, dominate or instill fear. It doesn't have to be physical abuse. It can be emotional, psychological, financial, sexual or other types of abuse. This phenomenon is becoming increasingly disturbing in Albania, and in particular in the city of Durres. Although the majority of domestic violence cases are hidden, we often see in television or read the newspapers, crime histories or domestic violence. Usually, women are more commonly the victim of domestic violence, though the victim can also be the men, children, elders or relatives.
