The paper aimed to figure out the distribution characteristics of phytoplankton in north area of outer Dianchi Lake, and analyzed its influencing factors. We determined the concentrations of total nitrogen, total phosphorus, dissolved phosphorus, and chlorophyll a in water sampled from study area in seasons. The species of phytoplankton community in water have also been identified. According to the monitor data, phytoplankton biomass increased significantly from May to September. During this period, Microcystis aeruginosa is the dominant species only. We found there was a significant negative correlationship between dissolved phosphorus and chlorophyll a, the correlation coefficient is -0.956, dissolved phosphorus plays an extremely important role in the growth and reproduction of algae. Therefore, we concluded that the concentration of dissolved phosphorus is the key limiting factor. The findings may help us to control cyanobacteria bloom and will benefit aquatic ecosystem restoration.
