Precision grinding machines are frequently used in the production process of high quality functional parts such as molds for the replication of optical elements. In optical mold machining, a fine grinding process is frequently used as the final process to reach high geometry accuracy. Polishing is then used to achieve the finest surface finish. In other words, the precision grinding machines is an effective tool frequently adopted to produce parts with high geometry accuracy. In practice, hydrostatic bearings are frequently used in precision grinding machines because of several advantages such as low straightness ripple, high damping, and low friction. These features make hydrostatic bearings very attractive in applications that require high surface finish, high freeform accuracy, and maintain good surface integrity.
