Nasal Swab is the Best Specimen for Pandemic H1N1/2009 Diagnostic Test

Good tool and great tool are desirable for laboratory professionals. During the outbreak of pH1N1 2009, there is no guideline or any advice for my institution which has just started a medical curriculum for only 4 years, then. As a Laboratory Professional, I used my experiences and best connection with Bamrungrad International Hospital, Bangkok, as a possible source of early detection that is reliable. I was somewhat lucky to having the QuickVue brand rapid test as a great tool through a positive recommendation from previous laboratory manager, Khun Visissak. According to the leaflet studying, I fell into a perplex situation of no idea what to do next. Then, I realized that the best way to get the best result for the society is the best practice from the best laboratory professional. I thought nasal swab would be the best way to get specimen for the rapid test since it can be done easily with more amount of specimen than others. After point of care testing of 690 samples from prisoners, cadet students, employee and students of SUT, my choice of specimen collection was confirmed nicely that nasal swab was the best specimen for my practice during the ordeal.
