Analysis of flow patterns in vertical slot fishways

In order to restore the passability for aquatic fauna at river sections with major man-made modifications often fishways using technical designs, as e.g. vertical slots, are built. Functionality of those facilities is primarily connected with the fishes, possibility to detect and pass them. Especially with regard to the passability the type of flow within the structure is of essential importance, as inappropriate maximum values could lead to selectivity and thereby to considerably reduced functionality.
