In this presentation, new applications of scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) to the study of the electroactivity of nanocarbon electrodes are discussed. Emerging sp~2 - nanocarbon materials such as carbon nanotubes and graphene have been extensively studied for various electrochemical applications. There, however, is no universal agreement about the intrinsic electroreactivity of these new materials. An origin of this problem is the heterogeneity of the nanocarbon surfaces with defects and impurities. Moreover, the structure-reactivity relationships of these nanocarbon materials are controversial and even inconsistent with those of such traditional sp`2 -carbon electrodes as highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG).
