We discuss the concept and evaluate performance of the terahertz (THz) and infrared (IR) photodetectors based on the recently proposed vertical graphene layer van der Waals heterostructures. The proposed graphene layer infrared photodetectors (GLIPs) are compared with other types of THz/IR phototodetectors.
