Resistance training is becoming popular for health promotion in ordinary people as well as for strenuous training in competitive athletes. Our newly developed device can produce isoviscous load within the whole range of motion and/or impose the elastic load on an appropriate angle during the motion. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of combined viscous and elastic load training. Twenty four young healthy volunteers participated in this study. They were assigned into three groups, isoviscous load training, combining load training, and control. Both of isoviscous and combined load training improved the muscular strength and muscle volume. There were no significant difference in muscle strength improvement. Values of the transverse relaxation time (T2) were significantly changed after the training session on both the conditions. There were no significant difference in T2 values between two group s. From these results, we concluded there was no relationship between regional differences in muscle activation and muscle hypertrophy.
