UHMWPE is being widely used as an artificial joints material, of which its oxidative degradation behavior has been gained more and more attention in recent years [1]. In present study, the shelf-ageing behavior of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), which was irradiated by gamma rays in air and then being shelf-aged for 7 years, has been studied by FTIR spectroscopy with derivatisation of oxidized species. The wear property of shelf-aged irradiated UHMWPEs with various irradiation dose level was evaluated by using the multi-directional sliding pin-on-plate wear tester.
