Increasing demands of weight reduction in automobiles will lead to the gradual increase inapplications of lightweight magnesium (Mg) alloys in commercial vehicles. However, the current applicationsof wrought alloys, in particularly sheet alloys, are very limited due to their high processing cost and inadequatemechanical properties at room temperature (RT). Twin-roll casting (TRC) process offers a promising route forthe economic production of Mg alloy sheets with improved mechanical properties. Recently, we havedeveloped a heat-hardenable Mg-1.2Al-0.5Ca-0.4Mn-0.8Zn (wt. %) sheet alloy (AXMZ1000) having goodRT formability [1]. Using the fast age-hardening response of the alloy, we have overcome the trade-offrelationship between the RT formability and yield strength in Mg sheet alloys. In this work, we report themicrostructure and mechanical properties of BH AXMZ1000 alloy sheet produced by the TRC process.
