摘要

Quasicrystal (QC) has brought us with many possibilities with their forbidden symmetry (fivefold, eightfold,ten-fold and 12-fold) in classical crystallography. Cd-Yb QC system, the first stable binary icosahedral QCsystem, was reported in 2000 and the research conducted later has developed the Mg-Cd-Yb system fromCd-Yb system. In addition, previous study also shed a light on the precipitated QC in α-Mg [1]. In this study,we investigated Mg-(Cd,Zn)-Yb with dilute concentrations of Cd, Zn and Yb. A series of systematicexperiments were conducted to study the microstructure and properties of Mg-(Cd,Zn)-Yb system withprecipitated QC. The main object is to clarify the precipitation mechanism of Qc or intermetallic compoundsand their contribution to the mechanical properties in the dilute Mg-(Cd,Zn)-Yb alloy [2].
