Our group is systematically evaluating the potential of microalgae as an ingredient in aquatic feeds in different parts of the world. We have recently demonstrated the application of two marine microalgae, coproducts from a biorefinery, in test feedsfor Atlantic salmon, carp and Pacific whiteleg shrimp. In the present study we have explored the possibility of replacing the fishmeal protein in the diets of hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus x Oreochromis mossambicus) with whole algal meal (WA3) ordefatted algal meal (DA3) of Ncmofrustiilum sp.. A control fishmeal-containing diet (70 g.kg-1 diet) was compared with two diets where algal meal was incorporated instead of fish meal. The protein content in the algal meal was low and therefore the inclusion levels were 224 and 296 g.kg'1 diet for WA3 and DA3 respectively. The diets were iso-proteic and almost iso-energetic.
