摘要

Over the past decade, intensive recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) have fast developed in aquaculture applications. This is amongst others due to legislative regulations limiting direct release of aquaculture effluents; sustainability issues suchas efficient water utilization, and competition for land near the sea.In RAS, water from the fish tank(s) typically undergoes a series of physical and biological treatments, then is recycled back into the same tank; in this process considerable amount of sludge is generated (Webing and Timones2007). The higher the recirculation rate, more reactors are used. Typically these systems involve solid filtration, and nitrogen removal via nitrification/denitrifi cation.
