ECONOMIC SPECIES IN COASTAL TRAMMEL NET FISHERY IN THE GULF OF ANTALYA (NE MEDITERRANEAN SEA)

In this study 36 fishing trials were taken to identify economic species in coastal trammel net fishery of Gulf of Antalya, Turkey. A total of 3878 specimens were caught and 55,4 % of them have economic value to the region.Trammel nets are widely used in artisanal or small-scale fisheries to catch demersal species (Erzini et al., 2006) and artisanal fisheries is important for turkish fisheries (Karakulak and Erk, 2008). In Antalya, small-scale fishing boats a large part offishing fleet and trammel nets are the most commonly used fishing gears. Although the target species are red mullet and shrimps, many economic and non-economic species caught with these fishing gears. This study provides information on the economic species in coastal trammel nets fishery in the Gulf of Antalya.
