VIRULENCE FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH AQUATIC STREPTOCOCCOSIS

Streptococcosis is a septicaemic disease affecting a wide range of fish species globally and is reported to cause considerable fish morbidity and mortality. Severe economic losses have occurred due to streptococcal infections and annual losses have been thought to exceed US$150 million worldwide. Streptococcosis is a major threat to tilapia farming where Streptococcus agalactiae and Streptococcus iniae are recognised as the principle bacterial pathogens and have been found concurrently with one another during a disease outbreak.
